Wednesday Is Full Of Flowers

Flowers are the sweetest things God ever made, and forgot to put a soul into.
                                             ~Henry Beecher, Life Thoughts, 1858

Welcome to Wednesday!  What will you do with Wednesday?  I hope to use every little minute of it!  Yesterday morning we were lucky enough to have some more rain - I could get used to this.  And, guess what?  I'm listening to it rain right now!  Mother Nature sure is being very kind to me.  What is the weather like where you live?

Photo of the Day

Hibiscus in my backyard

The hibiscus is a group of around 250 beautiful flowers and can be found almost all across the globe.  The hibiscus flower can universally mean that it is a nice summer. It might seem as an odd meaning for a flower but the answer is quite simple and rather dull, it takes a nice summer for the hibiscus to bloom.  In the state of Hawaii the hibiscus is the state flower simply because it is one of the most common flowers to be found on the islands and is generally given to visiting state officials, and sometimes even tourists.  Many species are grown for their showy flowers or used as landscape shrubs. They are used to attract butterflies and bees. Hibiscus is also a primary ingredient in many herbal teas.

It's One Flower Wednesday!  I completed this little flower on Sunday.  When I showed it to my DH, he said it looked a little evil - and I guess it does.  I actually made it to go with the season and thinking of Halloween.  We'll see if this one make it into the Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt.

What do you think?  Keep it or try for a different Halloween flower?

The other day I also was looking through some scraps and found a bunch of precut 4" squares.  I can't remember where or when I picked these up - perhaps I had a plan for them, but I certainly can't remember what that would have been.  So I started cutting some of them into 2" squares and created a few 9 Patch Squares.

Many of the squares are unevenly cut, so as you can see, I need to go back and trim these squares to 5".  Maybe one day I will have enough to make a quilt!

Final Thoughts

As the week progresses and life seems to progress a little too quickly, we must take time for ourselves.  Even if this time is only 5 minutes.  I know I seem to preach on this quite a bit, but unless we recharge our batteries will soon run out.  Have you ever tried to recharge a totally dead battery - it just isn't going to happen.  Take that 5 minutes to sit back, close your eyes, take several deep breaths, and  r..e..l..a..x  .  Ahhhh, now don't you feel more refreshed?  Now you are ready to tackle that sewing or a chore that has been waiting to be completed.  I know I feel better.

Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths.

Now go tackle Wednesday with gusto, but don't forget to relax!

Hmmm, this is the third post I have read emphasizing taking time to relax AND that was the theme of my devotions this morning... don't suppose that could apply to me?! LOL

I miss my Hibiscus that lined the side of my house in Delaware. They were wonderful in that they needed very little care from me! :-)

I love your halloween flower! I would say he looks more mischievous than evil.

We need some of that rain down here, if you would care to send some! It is a cool morning though. Perfect for throwing open the windows and sewing!

I love that Halloween flower! Maybe you could make potholders out of those random pre-cut squares? It's cool here today with a chance of rain today and tomorrow.

my (potted)hibiscus has to be moved inside by this time of the year due to night time frosts so i have large yellow flowers with cherry red centers happening in my dining room. makes me smile every time i look at it~!

No rain today - yet - but it is definitely threatening. I can hear thunder in the distance.

I like the Halloween flower. I vote for keeping it around.

That Halloween flower is too cute. With all the fussy cut blocks, you could have a hexagon I SPY quilt!

I like the evil little guy!! LOL He definitely should go into the quilt. Every flower garden has a gnome or a bee or a bug -- this one has a little gremlin! :-D Good words about the relaxing! Isn't that why we quilt!?!
Blessings!

I like the Halloween flower, keep it. It is so true we all need to slow down and relax. Take a deep breath...... I remind myself all the time at work to breathe, just remember to breathe and everything will be OK. I think I need a new job!!!!

I think the hexagon should be kept because in future years you will look back and smile at the occasion.

Not sure if the hexagon flower looks evil, but it would look really cute in an I Spy project. It would probably be a favorite for children to find. Also loved the beautiful flower photo from your backyard.

That's a fun Hexie-flower - maybe it will grow into a pumpkin? It would be fun to come across this in a quilt!

Hello! Quick question that's totally off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My site looks weird when viewing from my apple iphone. I'm trying to find a theme or plugin that might be able to fix this problem.
If you have any recommendations, please share. Appreciate
it!

Hmm it looks like your site ate my first comment (it was
extremely long) so I guess I'll just sum it up what I submitted and say, I'm thoroughly
enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but
I'm still new to the whole thing. Do you have any suggestions for first-time blog writers? I'd really appreciate it.
